About Lauren

My name is Lauren, and I have proudly worked in the rail industry for 10 years. I started my journey as a weekend caterer, progressing to full-time catering, Assistant Service Manager and ultimately achieving my dream role as a Train Manager. I’m a proud wife and mum of two, and my family is a huge part of what drives me. I strive to be the best version of myself, both personally and professionally, and genuinely love what I do. People are often surprised by my career choice, especially when they picture me spending my working life in steel-toe boots and high-vis at an early-morning depot! But every so often, I take a step back and appreciate the responsibility of being in charge of a train and the safety of everyone on board. It’s a role I never take for granted. I love being part of an industry that connects people, families and friends across the country. I’m equally proud to be part of the Avanti West Coast Wolverhampton depot team, where we support one another through the good, the bad and the challenging times. That team spirit is what makes it so special.

Proudest achievements

  • My proudest achievement will always be my two children. Becoming a mum at a young age and still being able to build my career, progress and challenge myself along the way is something I’m incredibly proud of.
  • I’ve also been fortunate enough to attend awards ceremonies during my time in the rail industry, which was an amazing experience. To be recognised within such a huge industry, and now to be nominated for another award, is a real pinch-me moment.
  • I genuinely come to work each day wanting to do the best I can, support my colleagues and make a positive difference to passengers’ journeys, before going home to my family. I never set out looking for recognition, which makes being nominated even more special.
  • To everyone who nominated me and saw something in me, thank you. It genuinely means more than you know.
