Surwat Sohail

Surwat joined Roshni as Chief Executive in 2017. She is one of the country’s most experienced practitioners in the field of Social Care and Health. She has championed the issues facing Black and minoritised communities within the field of domestic violence for nearly 3 decades. Her legal background coupled with her experience in the domestic abuse sector has equipped her with the knowledge and skills to effectively challenge policies and procedures that disadvantage Black and minoritised women and children. Surwat worked as Women and Young People Services Manager for Ashram Housing Association (part of the Accord Group) overseeing a range of services including domestic abuse, mental health and youth provision. Throughout her career she has taken the organisation through many accreditations and national awards including Chartered Institute of Housing Gold Award. Surwat is part of Women’s Aid National Federation Policy Group and continues to influence both local, regional, and national policies. She has worked with West Midlands Police to review their Domestic Abuse Policy and support with recruitment of West Midlands Chief Constable. She aspires to continue her journey to ensure that the safety and needs of all survivors of domestic abuse remain central to future development of legislation, policies, and procedures.
